And they’re off! Our touring dancers have landed in Germany and begin rehearsals for one exciting triple bill of contemporary ballets by our Artistic Director Stanton Welch AM–Velocity (2003), Tapestry (2012), and Maninyas (1996).
Houston Ballet will perform this triple bill in Ludwigshafen on April 7 and 8 and in Bonn on April 11 and 12. Tickets for our Germany Tour can be purchased here. Take a look at our video promo below.
The Houston Ballet dancers and staff are proud to return to Germany after our previous tour in 2015 by invitation to perform at Hamburg Ballet Days Festival. Hamburg’s daily, Die Welt Kompakt, called Houston Ballet, “a phenomenal company and their performance a triumph.” Our dancers are so thrilled to take classes with friends and perform for fans from across the world once again, helping spread the beauty of dance and strengthening our international friendships!
ICYMI: these dancers have been hard at work for this tour, rehearsing each ballet in between closing our final Mixed Rep of the 16/17 season, rehearsing for our annual Miller and Woodlands performances of Stanton Welch’s Madame Butterfly, AND rehearsing for the remaining two full-length ballets of the season, David Bintley’s The Tempest and Stanton Welch’s La Bayadère. Talk about stamina!
And on top of everything, they had to strategically pack their dancing gear for the long weeks ahead! Just take a look at First Soloist Soo Yeon Cho’s 18 pairs of pointes, which she had to narrow down to just a handful to fit into her suitcase. You can never be too prepared, right?
Join us in sending our best wishes to all of the touring dancers and staff from Houston Ballet abroad! If you’re in the area to see our triple bill in Germany, please use #HBTakesGermany and give Houston Ballet a shout-out! Prost!
Stay tuned for the upcoming final three months of our 16/17 season at the Wortham Theater!
